LIFE, AND ITS BITTER REALITIES
THE rain’s pouring incessantly even in summer. There are thunderstorms too ,accompanied by lightening. The frequently busy streets in MOdinagar are vacant now. The Dobrial family ‘re also in the peak of anxiety. Rohit ,the only grandson’S particularly upset today.He missed his mom for the past few days and felt so lonely like a baby in the woods.But nothing can alter his naughty nature.When he’s around he will create lots of energy and fun in others.And heis such a lovely child that every grandparents wish to have.
‘’G ranny, where is mummy?I want to be with her.Rohit yells with a great sigh.Tears are trickling down through his cheeks.
‘’Oh no! my little one.’’grandma interrupted.’look Rohit,your mummy’s in hospital.Don’t you know that she ‘ll give a big surprise for you.T ell me what do you want for your sixth birthday?A big gift or a small one?
‘’oh no ,I don’t want anything.I want to be with mummy.why she is away from me?why don’t she understand that I miss her badly?The poor little kid struggled hard to control his tears.He ran towards granny and fell back in her lap.But a phone call interrupted their conversation .Grandpa attend the call without any hesitation.
‘Dad, it’s me Arnavdobrial.Naina has delivered ababy boy now.Dad ,please convey this glad news to mom and Rohit.I’ll call you later.’’okay, my son .grandpa replied back in ecstasy.He went to their room to convey this glad news.
‘’I expect a girl this time.but it’s a baby boy.see,how lucky we are to get another grandson.’’he said with a twinkling smile.But Rohit ‘s still sobbing in grandma’s lap.G rand father handled the situation in a clever way.
‘Do you really want to see your mom ?what do you feel when your mom gives a wonderful gift that really don’t melt easily like your favourite chocolate?R ohit gently turned and looked at grandpa.He didn’t understand anything.

I will convey your regards to mom.,bye ,dear son’’.A rnav put down the phone with a pause.The very next day Rohit ‘s welcomed by his mother’s call.
‘’My dea r baby, how are you?when will you come to see your baby brother? Do you get any names for your little brother?
‘’M ummy ,I really missed you a lot.yes ,I am so happy now and excited to see this little one.Can I choose a name for him .”Rohit replied back with a smile.Arnav himself cameto pick him up.Rohit was thrilled to see his mom again and ran towards her.The little one’s fast asleep.B ut Rohit’s voice wake him up.He gently opened his eyes ,looked at his brother and then fell asleep again.Rohit seek permission from his parentsto give his little brother a name that he loved long ago.And he called his little baby brother,VIVEK-(INTELLIGENT).The two brother s bonded very well with each other.There may be stiff differences of opinions but they never f ight.T hey are the exact opposites in character.Rohit is an extrovert and have lot of friends everywhere he went.Vivek is very reserved and likes only the company of his brother.B ut he ‘s friendly with every one to an extent.vivek is more patient than Rohit.And Rohit is mature than othe r boys of his age.vivek is little sensitive in nature, but Rohit is bold.But they are the best brothers of all that anybody has seen in their daily life.Naina always wanted a girl.She strongly believed that a girl will always understandher mother better.she knew that a girl child must walk through the same phases ofh er mom.The agonies, ecstasies, teenage, somedreams,emotions,adulthood,responsibilities,prioritiesare more or less the same.T here must be a great generation gap between a mother and her daughter.But she might pass through almost all the changes that her mother had endured.The sense of belonging to one’s own family,tolerance, patience,humility, the fortitude to face obstacles,a vision to handle crisis when the chips ‘re down and after all an inevitable support for everyonein a family, , etc are more inherent in girls better than boys.N aina was thrilled when she became mother again.But fate had some plans. She don’t have a baby girl this time.oh no ,A rnav……………. this time again a boy ,she remarked .But he looks like you.who knows he will be a little genius some day Arnav replied back.T hey choose to name this this little kid as NAVEEN{NEWBORN}The two children are quite happy with their younger brother.But Naveen was totally different from those twokids.He is the cleverest of all. He ‘s always interested in damaging and repairing his toy cars one after another.H e has an indomitable mind,so loving,always has a smile in his face,and very close to Rohit.But he always have differences of opinions with VIVEK.Vivek always forgives his little brother’s naughty nature.Suddenly,Naina’s parents passed away in a tragic accident.Rohit stood with his mother to deal with this misfortune.And Vivek ‘s also mature enough to take care of his little brother.Naina ‘s so
brokenhearted tha t s he hardly talks and not even smile at her children.And often went into constant bouts of agony but on the other side Arnav with his patience and commitment brought her back to normal life.At that time Naina find support from her c hildhood friend Pinky .They don’t see each other after Vivek’s birth.But their children ‘re studying in same school and even in the same class.But the ladies didn’t have any contact witheach other till pinky came to knew Naina from her daughter Sanjana.Without any hesitation pinky ring up Naina’s number and this again increase their bond.Naina still remembers how Pinky took little vivek in her arms for the first time in life.Naina alw ays seek Pinky’s opinion for anything .But she never knew that Sanju and Vivek are best friends until they met at a temple in Modinagar.
‘’aunty, where is my classmate?S anju asked Naina.
‘’who ?,your classmate! what do you mean ,my dear?’’N aina asked with a surprise.VIVEK;sanju replied with a gentle smile.oh!VIVEK is at home,helping NAVEEN in his studies.Sanju’s beautiful eyes seems to twinkle for a while.Naina told that pinky is really lucky to get a daughter like Sanju.But she quickly noticed something like an unusal expression in sanju’s eyes.She asked herself;Does Sanju ‘s that much close to my son?H er twinkling eyes seems to say so.Oh God ,what’s happening?Is it true?
But the truth is always different.The fact is that wecan’t trust everthing and anything that we see in daily life.The only thing you can trust is only you and not others.Many people in the world can’t accept it but it ‘s a truth which most of us don’t understand at all.Years have gone so quickly.The Dobrial family has moved from their ancestral home.T his time the newly built home has got yet another guest ;alovely girl child.Everyone ‘s happy this time particularly Naina.B ut their happiness didn’t last long.Being a premature baby ,this little one’s always prone to infections a nd she has to be taken several times to hospital.The hospital visits become a part and parcel of Dobrials d aily life.The boys’re so much worried that they can’t s pend even a moment with their little sister.Every second seems to be a nightmare for Dobrials.A chilling sense of extreme dilemma ran through Naina’s veins.She had three young sons eag erly waiting for their parents at home.Naina knew that her in laws will take care of her kids at every moment.But deep down in the subconscious mind she felt so much heaviness that she can’t even relax for a second.she had been through misfortunes early in her life.B ut this disaste r crushed even her last hope.Naina thought her daughter ‘s sinking.Because she saw this little one struggling to hold her breath.She decided to call her daughter Shweta-{pure}.But shweta’s a fighter from the birth.she gradually beat the odds and became healthy enough to leave hospital.Vivek ‘s having holidays at that moment and Rohit ‘s busy with his studies.Shweta became naughty day by day.She ‘s not friendly with Naveen.It seems that baby loves her brother but often attacks him in a play ful mood.Naina has to save Naveen from the mischief o f Shweta every time.She’s calm and always sle eping during day time .But at night she gave her mother nightmares,most often seems to test her mother’s patience.It’s summer and Rohit ‘s in deep sleep.Naveen ‘s busy watching Tennis match.And Vivek ‘s getting bored and bored for the past few hours.He went downstairs and saw shweta crying.H e saw his mom struggling to console this naughty kid.He gentled touched baby ,wipe her tears,and talk to her.And the baby stopped crying.She became so friendly with him within seconds and even started playing with him the whole night.This becomes a habit and swetha ‘s always been upset the moment she missed her brother.She even started to call Vivek’’ Mummy-daddy.’’years passed so quickly.Shweta has grown up into a pretty girl.Rohit ‘S busy doing his M.D.and Vivek’s about to join College.Naveen “s waiting for his exam results and excited to enter high school.But the conflict between Swetha and Naveen increased day by day.Shweta often likes to irritate him and Naveen misunderstands that his littlesister really hates him.H e’s not aware that swetha really loves him much more than she irritates him.M ost often Vivek has to settle their small fight. Luckly Vivek got admission for computerscience in his favourite college.
Sanjana also got admission in the same college.The first few months ‘re really fun,full of hopes,and enthusiasm.Vivek find a good companion in Rishi(who is a little star in Bollywood).Theyalso looked almost alike in appearance too.But Rishi ‘s mentally tough, more fun loving than Vivek.Vivek bonded very well with his mates within a quick span of time.But his classmate Sam has another plans to hurt Vivek.Sam ‘s such a dangerous ,cunning guy that every girl seems to keep away from him.Sam has an indomitable mind which seemed to be filled with revenge for his innocent classmate.Sam was so clever in achieving his means.He observed his classmates closely and thought to conclude the bonding between Sanjana and vivek.B ut at the sametime he pretended to be best buddy at one side and made plans to cheat vivekon the other side.
Perhaps that may be the play of cunning destiny.Sometimes the cruel destiny comes in disguise of a treacherous fellow who rips our life apart.we, the humans will never get a premonition of devastation until it happens.Vivek has the habit of sharing some of his college life to his mom whom he admired more than h is life.Naina and her son shared the fun,his views about teachers,his best friend RISHI,and other classmates lik e ABHAY,YUG(KEVIN), Ritwik and almost everything that comes to his mind.But he shared everything with Rohit,the intimatefacts that he can’t reveal even to his mom.H e knew that he can trust Rohit like his best friend.Rohit always liketo spend time with his brother,even if he ‘s busy.But Rohi t always had suspicions about Sam.His mi nd seems to say that it’s wise for Vivek to keep away from Sam . This Sam seemed so treacherous .What can I do to help my younger sibling from impending danger.Oh my goodness!Perhaps Sam may be son of Paul who’s once the archrival of dad.I just want to find it out as early as possible.Rohit talked to himself.
The usua l talk between Naina and Vivek continued for some time.And Vivek just asked his mom,the baffling question she never heard in her life “mummy ,I think I ‘m in love with Sanju.She ‘s my classmate in school and in college too.She is such a wonderful humanbeing who keeps everyone at ease.Mom I think I am lucky to have a best friend like her.And I reallydon’t want to miss her a single day in c ollege’’.Naina’s speechless for a while.Her mind freezes like ice in the refrigerator .The reflection of that old incident made her so uneasy for a while.But Naina tried to hide her discomfort and gently patted Vivek.She enquired the feelings of vivek to his girl friend and gave him a clear idea of the tough realities of this challenging world.She told ,Beta (SON) you are so innocent,but sometimes people may not be like you.I knew that you loves her so much.B Ut does she have the s ame feeling for you?Fantasies, infactuation,affairs ,may be a part o f your college life.Sometimes it has nothing to do in real life’’.Naina asked Vivek to promise that he ‘ll do well in exams and never fight for Sanju in college at any cost.And Naina’s vision is pretty true and clear.Eventhough Sanju considers Vivek as his best friend,she don’t have any other feelings for him.But situations are often tricky in this cruel world.Sam has also the same feelings for Sanju just like Vivek.But he didn’t love her so purely like Vivek.To sam ,sanjana is just like a beautiful doll who he wants to act for only his fancies.And he ‘s more possessive than any boy and it increased day by day.H e always threatened Sanju f or talking with her best friend.But another innocent, cool, lanky classmate YUG better known as KEVIN seems to understand Sanju’sproblems.H e told RISHI about it and they planned to keep a watch on sam.To his worst fears ,Rishi understood that Sam would never mind ending VIVEK”S life to keep Sanju at his side.Rishi ‘s always with vivek wherever he went.One of their teachers even misunderstood them as “twins”.And they are always proud of their new Identity.Sam has group of ruffians for his support.Siddharth, Danish,and peter are those mischievous students who always give their teachers occassional nightmares.And they are SAM’s sole companions too.The four treacherous lads made plans to keep sanju away from VIVEK.And Sam got the right idea to executehis plan.It’s a bright sunny day.Rohit himselfdropped his brother to college as usual.But before bidding adieu to his sibling he added,’’take care,brother,I don’t want to see you get hurt.have a good day ,bye.’’
‘’,Bye,bye Rohit ‘’,vivek smiles bac k a nd waves his hands.HE waited for Rishi at the corridor of his classroom.But Rishi didn’t turn up.I nstead he informed vivek that he can’t come because of high fever..Vivek felt so sad,but at the other end sam ‘s very ecstatic.H e want vivek to be left alone and knew that Rishi would never allow to fulfill his dream.Being,a skillful artist,he decided to potray Vivek’s painting along with sanjana and another cool,smart lad ABHAY who ‘s their classmate.He drew caricatures of Sanju with Abhay and Vivek,and added malicious comments on it are in a relationsh.[the painting conveys a message to all that Sanju and Abhay are in a relationship and Vivek wants to be close to sanju by replacing Abhay as quickly as ever.}Siddharth and Danish posted it at all corners.Abhay ‘s so shocked to see this and he questioned Vivek for probing truth.
‘’VIVEK ,what the hell is this?What’s happening now?Can you imagine that both of our reputations in the college’re blown forever?What ‘s wrong with Sanjana?I didn’t consider Sanju as my girl friend even in bad dreams.”Abhay’s face looked so depressed that it seems he’s shattered by this setback.Vivek ‘s standing near the corridor fifteen minutes ago and he’s wondering what went wrong.He went straight to the corridor and to his worst nightmare the caricature ‘s still glued to the wall.Vivek ‘s so shocked that he can’t breathe for a while.He d idn’t know what to do or what to say.Ten thousand questions arise in his fragile mind,felt so nervous,and shattered forever.Vivek really wanted to call Rishi at this moment.B ut he could ony dial his friend’snumber. The words seems to stuck in his throat.Vivek’s voice seemed so choked that even his best friend Rishi can’t understand anything.Yug,and Ritwik stood with vivek in this misfortune.Ritwik’s an optimist and he tried to convince vivek that Sanju is innocent.He and yug strongly believes that it’s the ultimate culmination of the execution o f a cunning idea of Sam.They tried their best to convince their doubts to Vivek.But Vivek ‘s so heartbroken that he didn’t pay attention to his friends. Because he knew that Sanju ‘s a talented artist than any one else in this class. At this moment Sanju ‘s so ecstastic that day because she won the dance competition yesterday.she saw Vivek coming down the stairs and greeted him with a smile.He is so griefstricken at this moment that he never pay attention to her.

‘’what’s the matter Vivek ?Why’re you so angry to me?I don’t understand anything.Tell me what’s wrong and Iwill help you to solve the dilemma,my best friend.Vivek reacted badly that Sanju ‘s shellshocked for a while.She didn’t expect this from Vivek.He angrily remarked;

Her eyes filled with tears ,hands became cold,and face became pale like a premature baby. T ears were trickling downfrom her cheeks.She ‘s sobbing constantly so that even her voice ‘s choking.But Sanju’s friend Neha tears all the Caricatures from all corridors.Other Classmates like Sruthi and Taniya tried hard to console her.But Sanjana was inconsolable.Sanju ,it’s not a big deal .such things happen in college.Every body knew that you are innocent.Don’t worry Sanju.Gradually Vivek and Abhay will understand that this is not your fault.Don’t cry dear,we are with you and will always be in future.”sruthi tried to calm down her nervous friend.The teachers knew about this issue but they never questioned their students infront of the whole class. one of their tutors ‘s a classmate of Vivek’s brother Rohit.But Arpita never knew Vivek ‘s Rohit’s brother.She questioned vivek about this issueand knew that he’s devastated.She gently replied,Remember you are not a girl ,Vivek.Just walk with your head held high.B oys can walk so cool after this incident.But girls c an’t often do that.SanJu may be a talented artist .But I don’t think that she wll ever do such a thing t o any of her classmates.Don’t worry about what ‘ll other tutors think about you.And it will not be a big issue among us,We ‘ve been dealing with hundreds of students and we can clearly understand a student, their behavior and all .Nobody ‘ll scold you.Do you know even most of the girls ‘ll tease SanJu?Just imagine her situation,vivek.B e tough my boy,you have to be bold.Just face th e situation as it ‘s.Never give up hope.study well my boy.Show them you have the power to face it.Nobody will tease you ,just relax.situation may not be challenging always.’’

Yes I too think so,mam.vivek replied with some hope in his griefstricken eyes.But things ‘re not easy as they think.Vivek and Abhay ‘re grilled for several h ours without any justice. Vivek became so depressed that he really felt so bad about himself .A bhay can take things with a positive spirit. .He tried his best to console his nervous friend.But Vivek ‘s so heartbroken tha t he ‘s desperately crying inside and trying hard to smile outside. Abhay knew that Vivek ‘s pretending to be happy.He too misses Rishi in this needy hour.Rohit himself came to pick his brother as usual.But Vivek can’t pretend infront of his brother.He threw his college bag at the car and ran towards his brotherand sobbed like a baby in Rohit’s arms.Rohit didn’t understand what’s happening around him..But he knew that Vivek ‘s brokenhearted.He ‘s never seen his brother crying till this day.Yug told everything to Rohit and added that he ‘s his suspicions about sam.This again confirmed that Rohit’s worst fears’re true.Rohit remembered that it’s vivek’s b’day and their younger sister would have been busy making B’day cake.He tried to console his brother.But his efforts ‘re invain.Vivek’s face looks so pale as if he’s bedriddenfor several days.He seems to be very upset. Things seem to be okay when they ‘re caught in a traffic block.Rohit tried to ease his brother’s nervousness as much as he can.HE told Vivek,just leave itVivek,Stop worrying.You didn’t do anthing wrong.Why do you worry then?Take it in a sportsmanspirit.I knew everything,vivek.it’s always easy to say things like that as just go and smile or it’s to forget ,but to experience such a baffling situation is d ifficult.Rohit held Vivek’s hand and told him he’s luckiest in the world to get a brother like vivek.Vivek r eplied back with a smile in his face.He said ,I always knew that you’ll understand me t han anyone else.They went home little bit faster than usual.But it’s too late.Naina became so upset that she c alled her friend in p anic.she came to know everything from sanjana.sanjana ‘s weepng bitterly through out their conversation.N aina thought “oh God what ‘ll I do if my daughter ‘s in such a t errible situation .’’she really felt so sad about sanju ‘s fate and encouraged her to f ace this world .Even when Naina put down her phone Sanju’s griefstricken voice haunts her like a worst nightmare.She began getting tensed about Vivek.She’s desperately waiting at the front door to meet her sons.sometimes there’s tears in her eyes.But she managed to hold ba ck her agony,and never allow little Shweta to understand a nything.B ut Naveen sensed something wrong from his mother’s expression.Shweta ‘s excited to give her favourite brother a wonderful gift for his B’day.When they reached home little Shweta greets Vivek with a smile.she held his hand and asked him to see her gift.Vivek on the other hand ‘s extremely nervous to fa ce his mom.But to Rohit’s surprise Vivek’s nervousness ‘s exposed in the form of outbursts of anger.He angrily remarked to Shweta in such a way that it hurts everyone.
‘’I just hate you zak (zak ‘s the pen name of shweta.both Rohit and Vivek alw ays call her zak and she likes this name more than shweta)leave me alone.I got enough gift from college today.so I don’t want any gift from you.Who are you to give Surprises for me?I don’t want to see you now.Go away.I don’t even want to speak to you now.”Shweta’s eyes filled with tears but she tried to suppress her feelings for a while.It seems that the little one’s so hurt by vivek’s annoyance.She went to the kitchen ,switched of the lights,and weeping bitterly like never before.Naveen stood with her ,wipe her tears,and made her feel at ease.But she’s still d epressed and tears are running down from her beautiful fa ce.
‘’kevin , (which shweta fondly called Naveen)don’t you know,how much effort I put to make this Chocol ate cake as it looks now.But…..wha t did I got in return?Why ‘s he so cruel only to me ?i did not do anything to hurt him.why don’t he want to see me again in this life?Am I a stranger to him now?why don’t he remember that I also have a mind wh ich feels so hurt when he scolds me like this ?N aina enquired vivek about the incident.He didn’t give a reply,but tears ‘re over flowing from his eyes.

But to their surprise vivek didn’t pay attention to sam.D anish’s really hurt by this and he punished poor yug for vivek’s silence.He pushed yug from the staircase and yug slipped his feet,fell down several steps ahead from top to bottom.It seems yug’s rolling through these steps like a guy who loses his balance in avalanche.His head’s hit near the wooden staircase leaving him injured and bleeding.Samit ran to yug’s help,tried to control his bleeding by giving him immediate medical aid.’’I really don’t want to die samit,please save me now.I want to live with you,my friends for some more time.’’ Yug ‘s crying desperately in pain.H e’s rushed to hospital immediately.but his friends felt so sad at this moment because nobody has seen yug in pain till that fateful day. Because he’s always op timistic ,smiling and likes to take life as it ‘s.B ut sam tried to irritate Sanju even in this awful moment.vivek saw sam ‘s harassing sanju.
‘’Sanju,don’t stay alone.if you want any help ,you can call me.it’s better to stay away from here.otherwise you’ll be in trouble.vivek told sanju.

THE END;;MY first SHORTSTORY ‘S STARTED IN March and it also ends in March.but I really don’t know people’ll appreciate it.I think there’s no chance at all.every character except one ‘s purely coincidential. It’s pity that none wants to read it till date justas people didn’t watch BoloRam in theaters on december31st.But I tried my best to do justice in my work.eventhough it’s just afiction we’n relate it to life to some extent.but really don’t know whether it’s success or flop.But the worst’s yet to come in the second part.
